Nomcebo Zikode Reflects On The Prospect Of Winning Her First Grammy. Prior to her first Grammys performance, Nomcebo Zikode is ecstatic to be recognized on a global scale, saying, “For me to get the opportunity to be nominated feels like I’m a winner already.”
Nomcebo Zikode, a multi-award winning singer, has had a spectacular couple of years that have seen her rise to the rank of a global celebrity. Nomcebo has a chance to win a Grammy Award on Sunday, which would be possibly her most significant accomplishment to date.
The platinum-selling South African artist is up for the Best Global Music Performance award at the most prestigious music event for “Bayethe,” the ground-breaking project she created with Wouter Kellerman and Zakes Bantwini.
Nomcebo discusses how she learned about the nomination at first. “When I first received the phone telling me I had been nominated, I was in Nice, France. I was leaping up and down because I was so pleased. It was all so lovely, as I recall, that we phoned Zakes and Wouter and had champagne in my room. I was completely astounded because I didn’t anticipate this to happen so quickly. Given how important the Grammys are, receiving a nomination makes me feel like an instant winner. I’ll never forget this occasion, and it means a lot just to have the Grammys’ acknowledgement.
Nomcebo remembers how Wouter had been attempting to get in touch with her in order to collaborate on “Bayethe” in the past. “He had been asking around and claiming that he needed to collaborate with the woman who sings Jerusalema, but some people claimed that it was difficult to contact me because I was constantly on the go. He insisted on working with us even though others had tried to recommend other persons for him to collaborate with. Fortunately, he ran upon Zakes Bantwini at the SAMAs, and they agreed that they wanted the three of us to work on a song together.
Everything came together quickly, and a few weeks after the song’s debut, it received a Grammy nomination. Nomcebo is happy to be nominated and sees that as a victory in and of itself, but she is also looking forward to winning the prize.
She also promises that she will release an album in the future. “I haven’t released any songs in two years. People have been so supportive and loving while I’ve been traveling the world on the go. I’m excited to play them some new songs now. Additionally, I’m excited to start my own business and take things slowly. Just one or two artists will be represented by the company, not many.
